SBOS Professor Michael Hogg ranked 9th on list of most influential social psychologists

Michael Hogg, professor in the School of Behavioral and Organizational Sciences at Claremont Graduate University, has been named one of the 10 most influential social psychologists in North America by one of the field’s most respected journals.

The rankings were published in the August 2010 issue of the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin.

Researchers ranked 611 faculty members at 97 universities across the United States and Canada using complex formulas that measured the frequency with which the faculty members published work and how often that work is cited in research by others in the field.

Hogg ranked ninth on the list for “individual scientists on career-stage impact indicators.” In order to make a fair comparison of researchers in different stages of their careers, the list includes an adjustment for the number of years since an individual earned a PhD.

Hogg’s research focuses on group processes, intergroup relations, and the self concept, and is closely associated with social identity theory.
