CGU to host internationally acclaimed professional development series

On August 20 through 23, the School of Behavioral and Organizational Sciences (SBOS) at Claremont Graduate University is once again hosting its annual Professional Development Workshop Series.  For the eighth year in a row, the event brings an international audience of academics, professionals, and graduate students to campus for one-day workshops taught by thought leaders and seasoned researchers.

Registrants for this year’s event include visitors from  North and South America, Africa, and Asia.  In addition, 425 tickets have been sold to watch the event as a live webcast.

The conference will offer practical training in qualitative and quantitative research methodology, research design in real-world settings, grant writing, design of data displays, and other topics.  A group of thought leaders in evaluation science will also join the Claremont faculty to present on cutting edge topics such as “Developmental Evaluation,” “Cultural Responsiveness in Applied Research and Evalution Settings,” “Consulting Skills for Evaluators: Getting Started,” and “Time for a Revolution – the State of Evaluation.” A new offering this year will be “An Introduction to the Science of Positive Psychology.”

“This series has grown into a key networking site for our students,” says Paul Thomas, Director of External Affairs for SBOS.  “It attracts a dynamic group of professionals from across the private and public sectors, which in turn makes the conversations that take place here a practical – as well as academic – learning environment for our students.”

Many of the workshops have sold out in advance, but the school will accommodate as many walk-in registrants as possible on the days of the workshops.  For the full program, visit www.cgu.edu/workshops.
